Answers to questions from the ‘Official night’

We have had these answers back from the Council following the meeting in mid-May.

1. Are there any plans to dispose of the Stage Coach site?

I am not aware that stagecoach are planning to dispose of their site in the short term I suspect that given the current market conditions and low land values, the site wouldn’t currently generate sufficient funds to enable suitable new premises to be aquired.

2. The fly-tipping etc on the alley between Rolleston Street and Victoria Road.

The depositis have been inspected and SCS are unable to remove as it is private land, Environmental enforcement are unable to help due to the locations do not meet the ‘prejudicial to health’ or ‘rodent infested’

3. The fly-tipping etc on the alley behind North Street.

The deposits have been inspected and SCS are unable to remove as it is private land, Environmental enforcement are unable to help due to the locations do not meet the ‘prejudicial to health’ or ‘rodent infested’

4. Waste and recycling being put out several days in advance of collection.

If any specific addresses are persistently presenting waste early, please can their details be provided so appropriate advice can be given to the resident.

5. Traffic speeds on Eastcott Road

If people are driving in appropriately or speeding this is a Police matter in terms of enforcement and we would suggest letting the local police team know of times and locations if this is a regular ocurrence in order to allow tasking resources to tackle this concern. Speeding is one of the Neighbourhood Police Town Centre tasking priorities and one resources have been allocated too. The Council and the Police have undertaken speed and traffic surveys within the Eastcott area which indicate speeds are lower on avarage than those being reported. If residents have any specific intelligence please can they speak to their local police officers.

6. The College site (maybe the biggest bit of fly-tipping in Swindon).

Negotiations in respect of the legal agreement are close to being finalised. Once the agreement is signed this will enable the permission to be issued in accordance with the planning committee resolution and enable the development to proceed

7. Young people hanging around street corners drinking and fighting

If residents have any specific concerns, please can they speak to their local police officers so appropriate action can be taken against any persons behaving inappropriately.
